Male vs Female Character Creation

Male vs Female Characters
Male vs Female Characters

Ok for those interested in my synopsis as a Software Engineer this isn't the main discussion for it as this discussion is strictly on my synopsis as a 3D Artist on Male vs Female Characters.

Introduction

So 1st there's plenty of ways to design a character and make it into a 3D Model even today you can still choose to draw and run a trace in Maya, 3DS Max, or Blender. Some scan models they sculpted in real life, others can make models straight from Maya or Blender. Regardless there are some general notions concerning creating Female or Male characters anyone can consider when trying to tackle character creation and that is what this discussion will cover.

Which one is more difficult?

If its your 1st character then regardless it can be difficult as along the way there are new concepts you are going to have to learn from hair, body type, skin tone ETC. Usually eyes are straightforward but depends on the techniques you use. However to answer the question the most difficult character creation is most certainly female characters as while hair for Females can be more relaxing covering the Female anatomy from a design standpoint will be completely unique character to character as very rarely does any one woman have the same body type. Then skin tone becomes complex because lighter skin requires advanced understanding of color matching darker skin is easier but less common as well for Female characters. The face also requires looking over multiple times as each female has unique facial features body types also requires either reworking a lot of times or adjusting as even this part can become unique even if you have the same morphs a different face or female anatomy will respond to weight or lack of weight differently. If you have to do female builds in stages then sometimes you might have to change the whole character into something different because according to a Female character you might have got something completely wrong. Then there's chest and leg which can have their on section for character creation as regardless for each female this is certainly going to be unique no matter what you do and if you want them to be toned properly this means playing around with bump maps for detail. Sometimes you won't have the right steps at all and will have to make female characters on straight up feel so while both male and female pose their challenges female characters are a trademark and very defining of an artist as a lot of custom work is often done to make realistic Female characters, Males can pose challenges as well but density for male characters plays a huge benefit. I know this because I've made 1 male character but I have made 20 female characters at this point and can very well say female characters forced me to become a more complete 3D Artist.

So make no mistake male characters are a challenge but once you do female characters be prepared for the deep dive and keep those assets as they are valuable even if you don't know it. This is my synopsis on the subject anyone can feel different but under this notion I'm 98% certain this is an accurate analysis for most artists even clothes in most cases have to custom fitted for females more than male characters.
